The Company

2nd Opportunity, one of the leading companies in life and employment readiness training in the US, provides a variety of training programs to under-served segments of society including jails and prisons, workforce development organizations as well as substance abuse recovery centers. To support their already popular face-to-face training programs, 2nd Opportunity wanted to invest in eLearning to widen their training program offerings.

The Challenge

As a provider of training programs to the under-served segments, the management team at 2nd Opportunity required an eLearning solution that was accessible to learners inside jails and prisons via the devices approved by prison authorities.  As the available functionalities and features of these devices were limited, the management team required the courses to be lightweight and able to work uninterrupted even on limited connectivity.

While the course content and training videos had already been created, limited experience with digital learning and lack of inhouse capabilities to develop eLearning meant that the company was looking for a robust solution to help them convert their existing training materials into an effective eLearning program.

2nd Opportunity had been searching for a solution for a while, and by the time they contacted Wizcabin, time was already running out. There was already a pressing demand to provide an eLearning course for several prisons as they had to roll-out an 8-hour eLearning course within 20 days.

The Solution

To assist 2nd Opportunity in overcoming these challenges, Wizcabin’s eLearning team adopted a 3-step approach: strategy planning, course piloting and eLearning coaching.

Wizcabin consulted the company’s management team to create an eLearning strategy that provided maximum impact with the least development time. Firstly, to overcome the learner’s potential accessibility obstacles, it was paramount to provide a lightweight solution that worked across all kind of devices.

Since the company was not looking to launch their course programs though an LMS, Wizcabin worked with the management team to create a course output that was HTML5 based, rather than SCORM.

By using a HTML based output, Wizcabin was able to deliver a lightweight solution that was fully user-friendly in design whilst also fully functionally even at the lowest internet speeds and hardware specifications.

As 2nd Opportunity already had a library of pre-existing video content, the company faced the challenge of integrating these pre-existing course materials to create a smooth and engaging course. Using the platform’s automated features, Wizcabin’s eLearning team was able to create several pilot courses, adding interactivities and assessment questions and integrating current video content.

Wizcabin also worked with 2nd Opportunity to develop and approve a course template which could be used by the company’s learning and development team for creating future courses. This was particularly useful, especially for members of the team who were not experienced in using eLearning tools and technologies.

 

With time constraints to produce multiple different courses, Wizcabin also provided in depth eLearning coaching sessions to 2nd Opportunity team to reduce their learning curve and assist them with any queries relating to content creation and program rollout. As 2nd  Opportunity aims to continue further training program rollouts, Wizcabin continues to be on hand to support them with their eLearning needs.
