According to a study by Statista, about 81% of US college students mentioned that e-learning technology helps to improve their grades. In case you’re just shifting to online learning, it’s worth knowing that you’ll likely face some challenges.

One of them is how to regain your learner’s attention during COVID-19. COVID-19 was identified as a global pandemic in March, and ever since, there has been a disruption in various activities across the world.

For instance, in a way to curb the spread of the virus, several schools across the world were shut down, resulting in a shift to online learning. Now, here’s a burning question; “is online learning effective”? Although some people believe online training isn’t effective, many also believe it’s very useful.

Well, in case you’re experiencing this challenge and wondering how to overcome it, you might have to stop worrying too much about it. That’s because we’ll be sharing with you, in this post, a few ways to regain your learner’s attention while shifting to online learning during COVID-19.

Ways to regain your learner’s attention with your online training

1- Don’t forget existing expectations

Surely, you’ll agree with me that everybody, including parents, teachers, and learners, has their personal beliefs regarding learning. As an instructor, you need to keep these expectations in mind, while shifting from classroom training to online learning.

For you to regain your learner’s attention, you’ll have to avoid losing the already existed personal connection between you and your learners. Furthermore, you’ll also need to avoid shifting completely away from existing classroom culture.

With that, it means you must also keep in mind and follow the normal day-to-day routines that worked for you in the classroom, before COVID-19.

2- Captivate your learner’s attention with your e-learning course

You can also regain your learner’s attention by making your e-learning course appealing to them. As such, you need to include various multimedia elements, such as videos, infographics, images, and a few others, in your e-learning course.

By so doing, you’ll get to increase the interaction level, giving your learners more reasons to attend your online training.

Furthermore, you’ll also be able to regain your learner’s attention when you make use of the right tools, especially those that allow you to tap into their emotional response. Doing this will also help you to boost their retention ability.

3- Introduce quizzes and assessments

Another way to regain your learner’s attention is by challenging them during your online training. You can do that by introducing quizzes and assessments, when necessary, into your e-learning course.

Certainly, you’ll agree with me that many people appreciate getting challenged. So, by incorporating challenges into your e-learning course, you tend to gain your learner’s attention.

Apart from that, you’ll also get a better idea of how they’re interacting with your course. And should in case you find out they’re not getting along as expected, you can easily re-strategize your training.

4- Incorporate social features

Apart from introducing various challenges, another way to captivate your learner’s attention is by incorporating the right social features. In case you don’t know, these features include commenting and sharing the online content with other people.

So, by adding all of these elements to your online learning, you tend to boost your learner’s participation and engagement level, and that’s a better way to gain their attention.

In addition to incorporating the social features, you must also encourage your students to make use of the elements to communicate with each other.

For instance, in case there’s a need for a general problem-solving task, you can make use of online forums to grab your learner’s attention.

5- Ask for learner’s contribution and feedback

You will also be able to regain your learner’s attention when you invite them to contribute their knowledge. So, ask them to share with you what they’ve been able to acquire so far in your e-learning course.

Since one-size-fits-all doesn’t work anymore for everybody, you should give your learners the chance to contribute in a way that suits them. By so doing, you tend to grab their attention and motivate them to learn better.

Furthermore, one way to know whether your online learning is interactive enough is by asking your learners for their feedback, regarding the structure of your course.

Ask them how they feel about the course and what they need you to add to make the online training experience worthwhile.
